Remodeling can be an exciting time in the life of any homeowner. Anytime you decide to remodel or update, several weeks and/or months of planning should have been undergone. I believe that the number one thing is setting up a budget and begin selection process. There is a general rule of thumb of a 10-20 percent overage that should be allocated and attributed to the overall project. Once a budget has been allocated and material selection begins, it is important to hire the right professional. It is important to hire a professional that has done this type of work and has the experience and knowledge of working with different materials and has a general idea of what the project will proceed from beginning to end.
As the project begins and progresses, it is important to have constant communication and plenty of rapport with how the project is involving and how adjustments could be applied and how the affect the financial and operational part of the project. As the project comes to an end and the Contractor signs off on the project is is important to set up a punch list with pending issues, making sure that these issues get addressed in a timely manner.
